Week Thirteen

At the beginning of my higher level education, I spent a lot of time switching majors. I took a lot of different classes, all of them interesting, but I left unfocused, without a bachelors degree, nor any real direction. I decided to become a songwriter, and my mother said, “it’s finally making sense, you are using all of your skills you learned for your career. In a career you didn’t know you were going to have.” While I didn’t stick to the idea of pursuing a career in the music industry, I still believe what my mother said applies to my life. I replay her words in my head often.

Someday I want to start my own business. I don’t know what I want a business in, but I believe that I will be prepared for it whatever it may be. I’m trying now to relax more and follow my heart. I will find my place in this world.
I also left a job at a restaurant when I moved to Brazil. One of the managers there, said “keep in touch, because I believe you are going to do great things, and I want to hear about them.” Those words have since stuck with me and motivated me to keep busy. I was only a hostess there, but still he could see that I was more than that.
I can do great things. I know it. I just am anxious to find out what they are exactly…

“She created in her room an atmosphere where warmth and acceptance weave their magic spell; where growth and learning, the soaring of the imagination, and the spirit of the young are assured."
"She made the scriptures actually come to life."

Unfortunately, ideas are not necessarily based on economic realities
We define an opportunity as a future state that is both desirable and
achievable The key is to not blind oneself to new possibilities by defining the opportunity too narrowly or being too single minded. The trick is to find the “sweet spot” at the intersection of societal needs, economic feasibilities, and one’s personal satisfaction as one pursues entrepreneurial opportunities Decisions are contingent on each preceding decision and on many factors beyond our control.

We must prepare our minds to recognize and create new ideas and then to shape them into opportunities.

opportunities begin as unformed ideas that entrepreneurs shape and refine over time
develop a concept, engage the market, and then iterate, iterate, iterate; engage the market and then iterate, iterate, iterate; and keep engaging the market and iterating. these entrepreneurs all had personal, educational, and professional experience and networks that helped them spot the kernel of a good idea in emerging trends. these entrepreneurs narrowed their focus to find a market entry point that could be tested, refined, and then used as a platform for developing the business to its full potential. Successful entrepreneurs are able to recognize patterns before an opportunity takes shape.  They search for ideas at the intersection of markets, industries, and emerging technologies.  The majority of entrepreneurs in the study, 71%, replicated or modified ideas encountered through previous employment. idea finding” can best be described as a creative process through which entrepreneurs draw on their intuition, developed through personal experiences and expertise, and on a network of relationships with others who offer fresh perspectives Expertise, Motivation, Creative-Thinking Skills Associating, Questioning, Observing, Networking, Experimenting
